Companies that choose to access the public market for capital have the opportunity to take advantage of one of the principal drivers of growth and value creation in the global economy. While the rewards of being a publicly held company may be great, the SEC rules that govern these companies can be daunting. Indeed, SEC compliance has moved into an entirely new realm of complex compliance since the sweeping and monumental passage of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in 2002. In short, the pressures and responsibilities of financial reporting and corporate governance for public companies have never been greater.

PKM is exceptionally qualified to assist public companies in this "brave new world." Long before the passage of Sarbanes Oxley, PKM had built a well-established SEC audit practice that prided itself with staying at the forefront of evolving regulatory change. Since the passage of the Act, the firm has further solidified its knowledge base and today is among the top firms in the country that service public company clients. We work with more than 35 SEC registrants, demonstrating the highest levels of knowledge, judgment and expertise necessary to understand compliance with regulatory authorities.

Beyond our hands-on experience, PKM associates stay current with accounting standards as prescribed by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). PKM is registered with the PCAOB and is a member of the Center for Public Company Audit Firms of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Because of the associated economic risk, not all accounting firms are permitted to perform these complex audits. Firms must first register with the PCAOB and, second, undergo intense inspections every three years by the PCAOB auditors. PKM passed our inspections with no audit deficiencies, a feat that according to the October 2007 PCOAB Report on Inspections of Domestic Triennially Inspected Firms is accomplished by only 28% of registered firms.
