Intern and Client Interaction

Maggie Buckley

Audit Intern

July 29, 2016

Beginning my internship four weeks ago, I was traveling to my first client in Alabama with my engagement team for the week, with so many different emotions playing in my head. I was anxious for my first time interacting with clients yet so excited to get a feel for what it was like in the day of an auditor. I was so nervous to be interacting with clients who knew so much more about what I was doing than I even did at this point. With the help of my engagement team, I was quickly adjusted and no longer nervous for what was to come. Within the first hour, with the help of my in-charge, I was in direct contact with the CFO and experiencing what it was like to be an auditor and how to approach the client with questions about their procedures. The clients that I have worked with the past four weeks have been my second favorite thing about PKM next to the people that I am actually working with.

The people that I have worked with have truly been the best thing about PKM. There has never been a moment that I did not feel like a part of the PKM family from day one as an intern. My engagement team members, ranging from partners to staff, have taken so much time out of their day to sit down with me and make sure I understand what I am doing and why I am doing it. They really do care to make sure that you understand the process and procedures of what you are doing and answer your thousands of questions you have as an intern. The thorough explanations to all of these “dumb” questions have been the reason that I have learned so much more than I thought possible in such a short amount of time. With four more weeks left, I know there will be many more learning experiences to be encountered through my numerous questions and engagements!
